NW0AA North West Angle (Minnesota) Amateur Radio Club
A number of years ago an elmer of mine, Perry WD0FET, and I were running a field day exercise and attempting to deal with the annoying noise from both local and celestial sources. We were getting pretty tired of the constant HISSSSSSS in our earphones. Anyway, Perry mentioned that he knew of a place where he was certain that there would be no noise to harass our ears. As it turns out, Perry's brother-in-law Dan WA0FJJ and his xyl Judy WD0HDH had a cabin on Bear River near Angle Inlet in the Northwest Angle of Minnesota and were willing to host just such an event. Dan and Judy have pretty much hand built the cabin from scratch using logs from the surrounding land. Someone thought that we should form an official club to establish a specific callsign rather than pursuing a 1x1 each year so we organized a club, applied for a license, was issued KC0SBG which we quickly got changed to NW0AA, Northwest Angle Amateur Radio Club.
As I recall our first venture to the Angle was in 2005 and we've only missed one year since. Normally, we've had four ops, however, for the last two we've had six: Dan WA0FJJ and Judy WD0HDH from Coon Rapids, Perry WD0FET from Brookings, SD, Murray K0TA from Chadron, NE, Matt KD0LVH from Columbia Heights and myself from Sauk Centre. We usually run two stations with one on ssb-psk-sstv and the other on ssb-cw. It's also an opportunity to experiment with "new stuff" you brought along, keeping mind that in the summer everything comes in and goes out by boat (and none of us are getting any younger).
